1. First of all, could you tell us who you are and what you are currently doing?
We are George and Christine Gomez, a married couple, who have recently written a fictional tale “Saving the King” about Elvis Presley based on our screenplay of the same name, which is catching buzz around Hollywood. George has a nursing degree from Tennessee State University and has worked as a psychiatric registered nurse for over 30 years. He has extensive experience in the treatment of drug addiction and the effects of withdrawals. He is an avid golfer, a movie trivia buff with a movie group consisting of over 400 members, and is a lifelong Elvis fan. Christine holds a computer science degree from CSU Chico and is a software developer for one of the nation’s premier national laboratories. She loves to read and spend time with her family. Through the journey of writing this book, she has developed a love of Elvis Presley and understands now why he was called the King of Rock n Roll.

2. Why did you write a book about Elvis Presley?
George grew up in Nashville, Tennessee during the sixties and seventies with a heavy dose of Elvis Presley music sharing the airwaves with the popular Country music of the region. George felt that listening to The King seemed as natural as drinking water. On that fateful Tuesday evening in 1977 when the news of Elvis’ death hung heavy in the air, George felt a great loss, as did millions of others, but he preferred to think of a different ending to the story. Out of the mournful thoughts of his teenage mind, the story began to germinate. As the years went by, he embellished the story and had a yearning to get it down on paper.

Christine grew up in the same era, but the airwaves in her California childhood were filled with the popular artists of the time. Elvis was considered a legend from a bygone time and was relegated to the “oldies” stations. She did not become a true fan until after she and George married in 2007. George’s enthusiasm for the story caught hold in Christine and the couple began the journey of bringing it to life in the form of a screenplay. With the screenplay under their belt, the next progression to the story was translating it into a book, and together they molded and shaped the story into what is now a truly endearing tribute to The King.

3. What’s this book all about?
Elvis Presley saves a young boy from a menacing stranger after a performance in 1956, setting up a chain of events that ultimately leads to a mystical encounter with an angel who sends Elvis on a journey that changes his destiny. The young boy grows up into a rich and powerful man who forces Elvis to confront the demons of his addictions. There are many threads to this story, such as the involvement of Johnny Cash to help orchestrate the plan while a down-and-out reporter investigates the mystery of Elvis’ death, getting too close to the truth. As the tale unfolds, the reader will be pulled back to the days when the King of Rock n Roll still sat upon his throne.

4. In your book description you are telling: “The young boy grows up into a rich and powerful man who forces Elvis to confront the demons of his addictions.” Wasn`t Elvis in that time the demon according to many people? Because of his sexy moves and how he dressed.
It’s true that there were people who considered Elvis to be very controversial and vulgar, but in reality he was a performer who knew how to mesmerize the crowd. The young boy in this story attended an Elvis concert with his parents who were Elvis fans as a result of a close friendship they shared with Johnny Cash and even God himself had a hand in Elvis and the young boy crossing paths that day.

5. Have you both always been big Elvis fans?
George ( G ) I can't remember a time when I haven't been. Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee all my life, listening to Elvis was as natural as drinking water.
Christine ( C ). Elvis was a huge icon when I was growing up, but he was mostly played on oldies stations and I didn't listen to those very often. I wasn't a big fan until George and I got married and his passion for Elvis won me over. I'm now a very big Elvis fan.

6. Do you remember how you felt when you heard he had died in 1977?
G. I felt shocked. I felt sad. I felt cheated that this larger than life man died so young and way to soon at 42 years old.
C. I felt a sense of loss for the music world. I remember that I couldn't believe he died so young. We were all unaware of all the afflictions he was suffering from. It was a shock.

7. Did you ever believe he could still be alive somewhere?
G. That answer is a big NO. All the conspiracy theories that were floating around, I just never believed it for a second.
C. I never felt that he faked his death, and to leave his family behind would not be something he would have done. So it's a NO for me also.

8. Is this your first novel?
G. Yes, i'ts the first for both of us, but we are thinking about a sequel down the road, so it may not be our last.

9. How did you come up with the idea of Elvis actually not dying in the story?
G. I wanted to come up with a different ending to his life; I wanted to finally put closure to his great life for his millions of fans who felt so cheated.

10. I love the detail that makes the story so believable, did you have to do much research?
G. I did some research, but I basically knew a lot about him and his inner circles. There were things, though, that I found out that were so cool about the man they called the King.
C. Yes, I did a lot of research about famous landmarks in Memphis and Nashville that we mention in the book. Also, I had to find out about the variety of animals and plants that would be living in a tropical island in the Caribbean.

11. Can you give us a little flavor of the story?
G. Elvis saves the life of a young boy back in 1956. The young boy grows up and inherits his father's billion dollar company. Twenty years later, with the help of an insider in the Elvis camp, that young boy, now a man, puts a plan into action to save the King's life from his demons of addictions. There are other threads to the story such as an alcoholic reporter getting to close to the story that the King has been killed in an accident. Johnny Cash is also prominent in the story, helping orchestrate the elaborate plan to save Elvis' life. There are many more characters and twists in the story of mystery, suspense, second chances, paying it forward, and of course redemption.

12. Have you had much feedback from Elvis fans?
G. We have over 7000 followers on Twitter and thousands of likes on Facebook. I talk daily to fans from Germany, England, Demark, Italy, Brazil, Spain and much more and it's all about Elvis Presley.

13. Have you sent a copy to the Elvis people?
C. Yes, we sent a copy to the Presley estate, but we haven't heard anything back from them.

14. It seems perfect for the big screen - Are there any plans for a movie?
G. There is a lot of interest in Hollywood. We have 3-4 producers and a publicist working hard to generate and garner interest from the studios. We will definitely get this story of redemption to the screen.

15. Are you working on your next novel?
C. We planted some seeds in the first novel that we will expand on in the sequel. We have some great ideas for the sequel so stay tuned.

16. So a proportion of the Saving The King book sales is going to the Elvis Presley Foundation?
G. Yes, 5% of the proceeds of the book will be given to the Presley Charitable Foundation which was started in 2007 by his daughter, Lisa Marie. Christine and I felt compelled to give back. Elvis was so charitable and literally gave the shirt off his back to help others.
